Kids Being Awesome

Culion Palawan-Kids Being AwesomeI was on the breakwater, waiting for sunset, when they floated by on a Styrofoam raft. They were struggling to keep it balanced; every time one of them so much as tilted his head, the whole thing turned turtle. But they were laughing the whole time and I laughed with them.

One of them decided he wanted to do a backflip. He scrambled to his feet while his companions kept the raft steady. It took a few failed attempts – I watched in amazement as he sprang into the water again and again.

Then finally, he got his perfect leap.

This is part of a small series called The 100-Word Travel Stories. Why 100 words? 🙂

*Submitted this photo to the National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest. Long shot but it’s worth a try. 🙂 You can check it out here
